The Current “Team”
For many years I have kept a pen and paper diary charting the main events and anecdotes which happen here at home with our animals, sometimes adding snippets and stories from elsewhere among family and friends. I thought it might be fun from now on to run this as a blog and include a photo or two sometimes. So, for starters, let me introduce our current animal team of one dog, four cats and a bear:
Adora Bubble – At almost 8 years old she is our oldest, yet smallest cat. A bit of a diva but loves dogs. She arrived from Cats Protection as a rather grumpy kitten.
Odette is of a very nervous disposition. She has only three legs having been born with a congenital problem which necessitated amputation. She is now 6 years old, but was homed to us at about four months, such a bundle of nerves that Windyway Animal Sanctuary pleaded with us to let her mum ‘Spud’ come too, but that is a story to be told later.
Gulliver aged 4 arrived as a kitten from my illustrator friend France Bauduin, who lives near Bristol. He has lived up to his name as a traveller, though thankfully only very locally. With a kindly nature, he did a fine job restoring a good balance in the feline relationships of the household, at a time when there had been much trauma. These days he is our rather lordly Top Cat. (These photos all taken by France Bauduin)
Melvyn is our baby and Gulliver’s great nephew. He came to comfort us after the sudden loss of our beloved Mille to heart failure in spring 2012. He is a sweetie, even if a tease to the ‘girls’, reminding us of another much loved clown-cat we had many years ago called Silvester. Melvyn worships Gulliver, is by far the clumsiest cat we have ever had, and has been a bit of a wrecker – never intentional of course.
And finally, Emily Ursus Bear (Bear sculpted by Ronald Rae) who moved into the garden in October 2007 aged approximately 470 million years. A huge hit with us all, including cats, dog and grandchildren.
And that is it for my first ever blog post……I hope you have enjoyed it and I look forward to sharing new adventures and stories so please keep an eye on our Facebook page for the next installment!
